Giving into that wanderlust…

“Settling down….putting down roots….for a lot of people there seems to be a desire or even a need to cultivate a connection to a place. I am not one of those people. I like to keep my options open… Do I want to live in a small picturesque town? Out in the country with beautiful natural scenery? In a bustling city with great public transportation? The possibilities are endless and having to decide is terrifying.

So, instead of settling down, my husband and I have chose to hit the road and check out this great country of ours. We started out from Kansas City and drove to our first stop Bremerton, WA. Very long drive but a lot of it was beautiful. My favorite memory is driving into Oregon for the first time on I-84. Gentle rolling hills slowly gave way to the breathtaking Colombia River Canyon. The area would be beautiful any time but we just happened to hit the canyon as the sun was starting to set. The whole area was flooded with this warm, molten gold color. The warm light danced off of the ripples in the water, and tree covered hills and mountains cast large shadows over the road. It was so striking it didn’t even occur to me to try to take pictures of it but even if it had I feel like the moment would have been impossible to capture.

We have been in the beautiful state of Washington for just over a week and we are loving it! We have made quick trips to Seattle, Bainbridge Island, Port Townsend, and we are getting ready to head out to a cabin in the woods just outside of the Olympic National Forest. I can’t wait to share all these places with all of you!

Have an amazing, adventurous weekend!
